Volvo crash test centre is one of the cleanest, safest places you could visit, even if you're a crash test dummy. If you ever get the chance to witness a crash test, then I would strongly urge you to do it. There is a slow build up as the car is wired up, measuring devices placed all over the vehicle registering impact forces and movement. The car is moved back along the runway. The team make some final checks, and then retreat back to their control room. An alarm sounds and a few second later you hear the whoosh as the car is pulled along the tunnel via cables, at up to 40mph, and then the impact. The sound reverberating around the huge hall, the shock wave travelling outwards to where you sit. The car lands back on the ground having been momentarily airborne.
There is an eerie silence, everyone looks at each other, mouths agape for those that have never witnessed one before.
